How To Prepare For Entry Test – An Ultimate Guide

Preparing for entry tests is not easy. It takes a lot of time, motivation and knowledge to pass the entrance test exams. There are some “tips & hacks” to get most out of your efforts. Basically I am going to guide you to do ‘smart work’ instead of hard work.

I am bringing to you some tips to prepare well for the entry tests of engineering and medical universities.

How To Prepare For Entry Tests

──────────────

1. Start Your Preparation As Soon As Possible:

Entry tests are made from your FSC/ICS course books. If you want to do well in entry tests then you have to perform good in your Intermediate exams. Real preparation of entry test is not done after Intermediate exams when entrance tests season starts. Real preparation of entry tests is done in FSC.

You have usually 30-40 days to prepare for entry tests of various universities. You can’t do anything in these days if you did not study well in FSC.

2. Don’t Cram:

You may get good marks in FSC by cramming or what we call “Ratta”. But this is not going to work in Entry Tests. You should try a to grasp the concepts, logics and theory instead of just cramming all the topics.

  • Try to read each and every line of your textbook keenly and make sure you understand them too! Use google if you don’t know the meaning of any word.
  • Derive and remember all formulas.

I have seen many students who got 90%+ marks in FSC exams but failed to pass entry tests of well-known universities and ultimately they had to join a mediocre university. They worked hard for 2 years but failed to get into good university.

On the other hand, I have seen many students who got into NUST, GIKI, FAST even with ordinary marks in FSC.

What to do if your teacher is not good at teaching conceptually?

We have solution for that too!

3. Focus More On Science Subjects:

In entry tests questions are asked from:

  • Mathematics/Biology
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • English (Not from your FSC course)

Most difficult questions are asked from Mathematics and Physics. You can’t pass entry test of any good university without preparing well for these subjects.

How to prepare for Mathematics and Physics?

  • Grasp all the concepts in your textbooks.
  • Write all the formulas of every chapter and remember them.
  • Try to solve numerical problems without looking at solution.

You should focus as much as possible on these subjects. Chemistry is also an important subject.

You can perform good in entry tests if you have average knowledge of Islamiyat, Urdu and Pak study. But you can’t pass entry tests if you are not outstanding in Science subjects.

4. Stay Away From Distractions

When you sit for studying you should only focus on studying.

  • Keep your phone away from your sight.
  • Switch off TV.
  • Find a Quiet place to study.
  • Night time is perfect for studying.

“3 AM is the time when legends either wake up or go to sleep!”

Why 3 AM? It is the time when you can sit and study peacefully without any distractions.

Initially, it might be difficult to study like this but with the passage of time you fall in love with this method! You will start to notice that you can do things in 1 hour which you previously used to do in 3 hours.

5. Buy Entrance Test Preparation Books in FSC:

Consider buying a book to prepare for entry tests in FSC especially for Physics and Mathematics. Try to get PGC, STEP or KIPS used books. Or you can download PDF books related to entry tests. Make sure those are related to your course.

We will also post MCQs and books related to entrance tests soon.

6. Practice From Past Papers of Entry Tests:

Past papers of entry tests are good option to get idea of:

  • What type of questions are asked in Entry tests
  • Difficulty level of mcqs
  • Time Limit

So, try to read past papers of different universities once in a week or two in FSC.

7. Stop Using Calculators:

Calculators are not allowed in entry tests! Stop relying on them so much! Try to do basic calculations in your mind and manually on paper. Develop a habit of doing calculations as fast as possible. Time management is very important to do well in entry tests of Nust, GIKI, FAST and especially in MDCAT & ECAT.

You can use calculator for your FSC exams but try to use them as little as possible.

8. Keep Yourself Healthy and Fit!

Most of the students don’t spend time on exercising. Bad health can cause difficulty in learning.

According to a research conducted at the University of British Columbia :

“Regular exercise changes the brain to improve memory, thinking skills and helps to fight depression and tiredness.”

Exercise and sleep well to keep yourself fresh in class and exams. You need to sleep for at least 7 hours and no more than 8.5 hours to stay healthy.

9. Keep Revising And Practicing:

Practice, Practice and practice! Practice is your 60% preparation. Solve maximum questions of ‘different types’. Revision is also very important. You have to keep revising all the things especially Physics and Chemistry. Write down formulas of mathematics and physics and revise them always before exams.

After Exams try to revise your books 3 times. Initially, revise and practice chapter wise. Then after doing full book revision, revise whole book again. Complete revision 1 day before the entry test. Don’t study too much last day especially don’t study at all before entry test.

10. Believe In Yourself And Ignore Others’ Negative Remarks:

You will find many people who’ll tell to you “Leave entry test for now and focus on FSC.” Stay away from this kind of people. Focus on your FSC and also keep preparing for Entry Tests. Most of the students don’t pass in entry tests because in FSC they think they are going to have enough time to prepare for entry tests. Ultimately most of them fail due to lack of time and they don’t prepare according to entry test format.

11. Keep Yourself Motivated!

Most important thing is to stay motivated! You should have clear image of your targets in your mind. Most of the people don’t work hard, that’s why few people are successful! Keep working hard for your passion. Don’t get knowledge to get a good job. Your aims should be high! We need revolution in Pakistan! We need great scientists, entrepreneurs and inventors in Pakistan! Pakistan needs you, get knowledge for the sake of Pakistan. Be a changemaker!

Here are some quotes to boost your motivation level for now. Best of luck!

  1. You are confined only by the walls you build yourself.
  2. Don’t talk, just act. Don’t say, just show. Don’t promise, just prove.
  3. Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and think of what could go right.
  4. Work while they sleep. Learn while they party. Then Live like they dream!
  5. If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you! “
